My blog reviews movies as political, historical or social commentary with intentional disregard for their artistic or cinematic value. One foe of American political scientists and economists is that they ignore movies as sources to inform them on changes in American culture, view exoticism as a hallmark of "foreigness" and, at the same time, impart American values and judgment to foreign movies.

Kathryn Bigelow got her groove back since her sycophantic "Zero Dark Thirty." The movie is well made and instilled with documentary and mock documentary parts. "The Game of Thrones", as always, appears as a star-making factory (Peter Dinklage, Lena Headey, Sophie Turner and now, Hannah Murray).

Yet, paradoxically for the movie with the subject of race relations and the injustices done to black population of 1960s America that the most expressive characters are white. Even Gbenga Akkinagbe's role was given little character and depth. Hannah Murray is very good, but Will Poulter is great. The star is born!
